ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
Asbestos
Asbestos has been around for a long time and continues to be used in various household products.  Many of these products are safe to have in and around your home, however the problem comes in when these materials start to deteriorate and release the fibrous Asbestos into the air stream within your home.  For FAQs about Asbestos, click here.

Mold and Mildew
Most if not all homes contain mold (believe it or not), however it’s only a problem when it gets out of hand and continues to grow and flourish inside your home. In order for mold to grow it needs three things (air, food, and moisture).  Take away any one of the three and it will die.  However, the key item to control is usually the moisture inside the home.  Although we do not have the expertise to identify or evaluate all the many types of fungus, we will help put it in perspective for you (I.e. Determine whether a specialist is needed).

Radon Gas in the Home
Radon gas is something most of us really don’t think about too much, until it’s time to move into a new home.  Then it’s brought to our attention since Radon gas has been found to cause lung cancer. Bottom line is that there is a high probability that the gas is present at elevated levels in homes found in southern lower Michigan.  Thus, we recommend having your home tested for Radon gas.  For FAQs about Radon Gas, click here.

Underground Fuel Storage Tanks

Buried oil tanks raise increasing environmental, safety, legal and economic concerns for home owners and sellers because oil leaks underground or even within buildings can lead to both environmental damage and very costly cleanup operations.  The life expectancy of buried oil tanks is generally believed to be around 10-15 years. At about 20 years, the risk of leaks from buried steel oil tanks becomes significant. Leaks can occur earlier if a tank was damaged at installation or was not properly piped.
